Minneapolis Photographer // Alternative Motion Project

I recently wrapped up a project with the Alternative Motion Project for their 6th annual performance, AMP#SIX.  "AMP a professional dance company passionately striving to create accessible, entertaining, and meaningful dance work throughout the Twin Cities area. Driven by the creative process, AMP gives an alternative dance performance experience to both audience and performer alike by creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.  AMP increases communications between performer and audience member through an array of materials and discussions." Co-founder of AMP,  Kristin Howe choreographs, Espirit De Corps which "follows eight individuals as they explore and challenge the idea of community.  In an age where it is easy to disconnect, this dance work encourages human connections as the dancers leave their mark on each other - eventually moving forward as one unified group spirit."  Kristin and I were able to connect after she learned about a project idea I had from a mutual friend and dancer, Jesse Schmitz Boyd.  Feelin' Myself is a project in the works that was inspired by catching candid moments of brides on their wedding day feeling their best.  AMP#6 and Espirit De Corps sounded like the perfect place to kick things off.  My goal with Feelin' Myself is to connect with a diverse group of individuals and capture candid moments and portraits of a person doing an activity, wearing something they love, existing in a special place or whatever it is that makes you feel your best.  It is something I feel passionate about and can't wait to expand on.  I'm so thankful for AMP dancers that were cast in Espirit De Corps for letting me into their lives to document where and how they feel their best.  Thank you to the Alternative Motion Project and Kristin Howe for trusting me with your vision.

Check out some of my favorite shots from each session below, and catch them on the big screen during AMP#6 this weekend at The Lab Theater in Minneapolis:

Jesse, watching TV at home.

"I've always considered my self a creature of comfort. Coziness, a sense of belonging and laughter are qualities I am drawn too, so I chose to be photographed in my home with my dog watching a sitcom. That's where I feel my best. Nobody to perform for, nothing to accomplish and nowhere to go." -Jesse Schmitz-Boyd

Lydia, running.

Stav, having a dance party in her kitchen.

Karin, doing yoga.

"I value my alone time probably more than the average person. I chose yoga because it is where I can be alone with my thoughts and better prepare myself for the day ahead of me without any distractions. Since I am a woman of faith, yoga is also a form of prayer for me and it is a way of honoring God with my body and meditating on His word." -Karin Jarvise

Lauren, winding down after rehersal.

Erin, playing with her dog at home.

"I chose to do the shoot at my parents' house because it's where I grew up and always had a dog.  I love animals, and had all kinds of pets growing up.  When I was a kid I never asked for toys, just pets.  I have a ton of love for Frankie my dog and love going to my parents' house to hang with him and relax." - Erin Ross

Stephanie, giving her husband a massage at home.
